How to Gather Backlink Data from Moz (Open Site Explorer)

The Open Site Explorer tool from Moz is a great way to find backlinks pointing towards you website. At Pinpoint Designs, we use it as part of many backlink providers in order to gather a comprehensive list of backlinks pointing to clients domains.

Downloading backlinks from OpenSiteExplorer is very simple and all you need is an active Moz Pro account. If you don’t have an account for any reason, then head over to and search for someone to run you off an External Links backlink report.

This guide is intended to show you how to download all the external links pointing to your website, it’s very straight forward, so let’s get started!

First, go to and login to your account. Once logged in, type your domain name into the search box and press search.

This will tell Moz to only export external links pointing to your website, otherwise, you’ll end up with a report containing all of your internal links too.

The last step is to wait for Moz to generate the report. For large sizes, this can take several minutes.
